Rochdale man is counting up the clients after losing his job
Date published: 31 October 2010
A Rochdale man who lost his job a year ago with Natwest is celebrating a successful raft of new clients.
Ian Cunningham, set up his firm, ISC Business Solutions, at the end of 2009, and has seen a steady flow of clients use his services.
ISC provides freelance bookkeeping and business advice. It works with clients to save money on accountancy costs, and provides tailored business advice and bookkeeping services.
Mr Cunningham says he is enjoying building relationships with clients and developing his business.
“I had worked for Natwest for more than 30 years as a senior business financial planner and lost my job in October 2009,” he said. “I began receiving Job Seekers Allowance but decided that I wanted to set up my own business and make my own way in life.
“I used personal savings to invest in the business and I am pleased to say this first year has been a great success and I now have five retained clients and several freelance jobs.”
Mr Cunningham received business support from the ISUS programme. The programme is funded by the NWDA, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Rochdale Council.
The programme was delivered by Blue Orchid.
Mr Cunningham added: “If anyone in Rochdale is considering setting up a business there is so much support available through organisations such as Blue Orchid and Rochdale Council. I had been in my previous role for more than 30 years so if I can do it at 49, anyone can!”
