De Vere hotels has successfully had it’s planning application renewed to build a 120 bedroom VILLAGE hotel and leisure club on the site.
Work on the hotel was planned to be begin in 2007 however, the global financial crisis meant the deal had to be delayed.
VILLAGE hotels have remained in regular contact with Kingsway’s developer Wilson Bowden over the last three years and is now in the final stages of negotiations to make the plans a reality.
Gary Davis, CEO of De Vere hotels, said the company was now in a position to progress after their hotels had performed well during the recession.
He said: “Given our strong performance through testing economical times we have the confidence to keep growing and this move on the Kingsway development can been viewed as the green light for the continuation of our new build roll out programme.
“Locations that offer us the best opportunity to return the investment on a fast track are high on our list, the Kingsway site was an obvious starting point. It is a perfect fit for our business model and provides an excellent gateway linking our properties around Manchester and Leeds and VILLAGE will continue to look for similar development opportunities in similarly strategic locations.”
Robert Grafton, Development Director at Wilson Bowden, said the hotel would be a major boost for the Kingsway site.
He said: “We are delighted to be progressing this deal again and it can only enhance Kingsway’s credentials as the location of choice for large, high-profile companies. Being located directly on Junction 21 of the M62 is one of Kingsway's many assets and is something that the hotel will be able to take full advantage of.
“The hotel will be a great boost to the Kingsway development and will assist in attracting businesses to Kingsway thanks to its superb business and conference facilities and the superior health & fitness operation.”
John Hudson Chief Executive of Rochdale Development Agency said: “Everyone involved in Kingsway Business Park has always been determined that this development would become a reality and the renewal of the planning consent is a really important step.”
