Daring to do diversity

Date published: 20 October 2006

'Daring to do diversity' is an ESF-funded project with two aims:

  1. To ensure employers are fully conversant with diversity legislation.
  2. To help them use this knowledge to maximise the effectiveness of their business.

To summarise, the project has two strands;

  1. Training.
  2. Consultancy.

Normally consultancy and training of this nature would cost around £850 per day but because this is totally ESF-funded it is free until the end of March 2007.  Remploy Interwork are the central organisation who secured ESF monies.  They have subcontracted the delivery to Academee as they have experience in this area.

The free training days are very interactive, no chalk and talk and not a powerpoint in sight.  Academee use professional roleplayers to explore how legislation works in practice on a day-to-day basis.  The training is aimed at the organisations who have 10-250 employees purely because they are more likely to be able to release members of staff for a full day.  There are a limited number of places available in each location and places are likely to fill quickly.

The consultancy is on-site, one-to-one support arranged at a time and date to suit the employer.  A consultant will explore where an employer currently stands with regard to legislation.  Are they unwittingly in breach of any aspect?  Could they be doing more to improve their business, attract more customers?  Are there any unforeseen invisible barriers that may indirectly discriminate or simply dissuade a particular group of people from using the services they supply?

The consultant will draw up an action plan for them, signposting them to further help and support in the future.  The consultancy is aimed at the small employers (1-10 employees) as they may not be able to afford to release a member of staff for a full day of training.  Academee have a finite number of consultancy days that are fully funded and free - 150 across the UK.
