The Norton Grange Hotel was the venue for the Rochdale Chamber of Commerce 'Gala Dinner' on Friday 27 October. Seventy guests enjoyed an excellent meal before this year's President, John Kay of Molesworths Bright Clegg and a Director of Rochdale Online, introduced after dinner speaker Henry West MBE.

Mr West, Vice Chairman of Governors at Hopwood Hall College, talked about the impending major re-organisation and bright future for the college.  The Rochdale Campus on St Mary’s Gate is to be re-modelled with millions of pounds being invested he explained.  He went on to say that Hopwood Hall has seen a steady improvement in examination results over the years, but with the advent of a brand new Sixth Form College planned for Rochdale Town Centre, the time is now right for Hopwood Hall to make a huge investment to further enhance the vocational and degree courses the college already offers.

The event was sponsored by the Enterprise Fund - a spokeswoman for the fund said: "The Enterprise Fund was pleased to sponsor the Rochdale Gala Dinner. This proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile evening, with new business contacts, and hopefully, friendships, to be developed - all aiming towards a successful future for Rochdale Borough and its ongoing Community Strategy."

Founder and Managing Director of Zen Internet Richard Tang said: "The Chamber Dinner was enjoyable and an excellent opportunity to network with the local business and public sector community.  Henry West’s after-dinner speech about education covered a subject that is critical to Rochdale’s successful future, although his choice of a lengthy PowerPoint presentation to get the message across was perhaps not the best way of keeping the audience’s attention."
