Bramall Construction donates £5,000 to Rochdale Fund

Date published: 23 January 2007

Bramall Construction, a division of Keepmoat PLC specialists in the regeneration and construction of public sector and affordable housing in the North, has donated £5,000 to the Borough of Rochdale Fund.

Trevor Jee, Managing Director of Keepmoat Western Region, says: “We take our responsibilities to the communities we work in seriously. We at Bramall have enjoyed working in Rochdale, for the last four years providing jobs, training and also being a constructive part of the local community.

We are delighted to make this donation to the Rochdale Fund to contribute towards providing help and assistance that will make a real difference to people’s lives.”

The Borough of Rochdale Fund aims to support local community groups, projects or individuals throughout the borough and offers grants between £100 and £5,000.

Rachel Hirst, Fund Manager from the Community Foundation, says: “This cash could make a real difference to a local group that might be facing difficulties due to lack of funding. It’s vital that local companies continue to make donations to funds such as this and we are extremely thankful to Bramall for its generosity.”

One such group that has already benefited from the Borough of Rochdale Fund is Kirkholt Furniture Project.

Set up 18 months ago, the project collects and stores unwanted furniture and distributes it to needy tenants in the Kirkholt area of Rochdale.

Reverend Barbara Harrison, treasurer of the project, says: “We collect furniture from people who no longer want it or from vacant houses and pass it on to new tenants who may be struggling to furnish their home. The scheme has been extremely successful and has fulfilled a real need in the community. We needed funding to help us with our running costs such as van hire, rent and health and safety training for volunteers to enable them to safely test electrical goods. Without this funding we would struggle to keep operating.”

The Borough of Rochdale Fund looks specifically to assist projects or activities that address any of the following funding priorities:  Safety, including crime and disorder; Sustainable neighbourhoods including the environment; Prosperity, skills and jobs; Lifelong learning including early years; Transport; Health and well-being; Culture, sports and arts; Community Cohesion.
