New luxurious Chinese restaurant opens on Nelson Street
Date published: 12 March 2007
Rochdale’s largest and most luxurious Chinese Restaurant, China City, Nelson Street, Rochdale, opened on Monday 12 March with a rip roaring crack of 200 Firecrackers and a traditional Dragon Dance to bring good fortune to owners Susan and Keeyou Chee.
Already well known and established in Rochdale, with New China City in Newhey, and New China Palace in Littleborough, Susan and Keeyou have a fine reputation for the quality of their food and the service they provide to their customers. China City is by far the largest of their businesses with 250 covers in the main restaurant and a private VIP dinning lounge for 40 people upstairs. It is expected the restaurant will employ 20 staff.
Specially imported Chinese tiles adorn the walls forming a landscape of traditional Chinese farming and fishing scenes. Eighteen spectacular lanterns hang from ceiling forming a magnificent sight as one enters the restaurant past the indoor water feature and traditional Chinese furniture. Mrs Susan Chee would not be drawn on the cost of the splendid décor but described the amount as “a fortune.”
Monday 12 March was chosen for the opening as one of the luckiest days in the Chinese calendar. To ensure all goes well for China City, Grand Master Chu led a team of drummers and Dragon dancers from the Manchester based Master Chu’s Dragon and Lion Dancing Club. The Dragon visited all areas of the restaurant to ensure no evil spirits remain and China City and its customers will prosper.
