Rochdale firms fined for cover pricing
Date published: 22 September 2009
Three Rochdale-based construction firms have been fined by the Office of Fair Trading for rigging bids on new projects.
Richardson Projects has been fined £595,747, Bramall Construction Ltd £455,000 and P. Casey & Co Ltd £287,197 for the practice of cover pricing.
Cover pricing involves companies putting in artificially high bids on contracts they intentionally do not want to win. Industry experts say this can lead to overpayment on contracts.
P. Casey & Co Ltd was find for cover pricing on the tender on a school in Stockport, a new nursery in York and flats in Leeds.
Richardson Projects were found guilty of cover pricing on work in Keighley in 2004 and, alongside Bramall Construction, work on a resource centre in Salford.
