Small Business Rate Relief
Date published: 03 August 2009
Rochdale Borough Council is encouraging local businesses to reduce their rates bills. Businesses can apply for help through the local authority through the Small Business Rate Relief Scheme. Current figures show 2015 small businesses locally currently take advantage of the rate relief scheme.
Councillor Mohammad Sharif, cabinet member for regeneration at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Many of the borough’s small businesses have already taken advantage of the rate relief programme. In fact last year we had the fourth highest take up in Greater Manchester.
“But we’re still doing all we can, to encourage more of our small businesses that are eligible, to apply for support. A reminder is published on the foot of all rate bills and we proactively send application forms to new accounts where we believe they may qualify, with a leaflet that explains how the system works. Our staff are trained to promote the scheme when dealing with phone enquiries from small businesses and visiting officers give face to face advice as part of their routine appointments.
