Business reps meet Apprentice candidate

Date published: 09 July 2009

Representatives of local businesses met Heywood Community School teacher and Apprentice candidate Noorul Choudhury at Heywood’s monthly business Curry Club last night (Wednesday 9 July).

The Curry Club is a monthly networking event for local businesses held at the Veenas restaurant on York Street and last night more than 40 networkers attended to hear Mr Choudhury share his experiences on the popular BBC One series The Apprentice.

Mr Choudhury answered questions from the audience, including one from Rochdale Online reporter Jan Harwood, and spoke about the whole process from first applying to join the show, the first interview, living in London for the duration of the series and a behind-the-scenes view of the tasks the Apprentices took part in.

He also shared with the Club the opportunities that are now open to him having taken part in the hit series, including utilising his science background to create a man’s shirt fabric that does not get stained.

Speaking to Mr Choudhury after the event, representatives from Arras People, the Heywood-based project management company, were keen to learn what such a high profile “project manager” took from his experiences on the show.

He said: “I was determined to go into the show as a normal professional person who really wanted that job as Sir Alan Sugar’s apprentice and the feedback I received from the kids in my school was that I did just that, that I came across as a professional. Ultimately it has helped me secure longevity of interest after the series because I’ve got a lot of interesting projects happening now and lined up for the future.”
