Women's Enterprise Initiative Team

Date published: 15 June 2007

There have been quite a number of changes recently to the Women’s Enterprise Initiative (WEI) team and as well as welcoming two new members of staff we introduce you to the full WEI team. You can meet the WEI team at their networking events, the next one is in July, or at the drop in sessions that are held every Wednesday between 10.30am and 2.30pm at our offices at the Employment Links Centre.

Elaine Simons - Women’s Business Mentor
Elaine’s principal role will be to promote awareness and provide business mentoring support for enterprise development to community groups, voluntary organisations and female residents all within the Rochdale Borough. She will identify training and development needs and access to partnership services. Personal counselling and advice to prospective women in business start-up and self employment initiatives will also be a major part of her work

For the past 15 years Elaine has been working on a freelance basis, running her own Marketing Consultancy. Throughout this time she has developed specific expertise in the Education/Public Sector, and has worked for a number of Public Sector organisations developing both enterprise and business start-up programmes. She is also a Princes Trust Mentor, a Trustee of Kidscan, a charity for the development of research into childhood cancer and the Vice Chairwoman of Network North a national networking group for working women.

Sajda Sultana - Finance amp; Monitoring Officer
Sajda relocated to Rochdale after her marriage in 2003 and for the past two years has worked for Rochdale Council as a Finance amp; Admin Officer within the Healthy Living Initiative, prior to this she was a management accountant for a Housing Association in Buckinghamshire.

Her work as the Women’s Enterprise Initiative’s Finance and Monitoring officer will involve the management of all the funding claim submissions and the monitoring of outputs and performance measures, but she will also be helping you by identifying funding opportunities.

Sharon Harrison - Administration and Support Assistant
After 16 years working in the childcare sector, the last 10 as the manager of a successful group of nurseries in the Rochdale and Oldham areas, Sharon decided on a change and came to support and assist the Women’s Enterprise Initiative team in all aspects of its work.

Sharon will on behalf of the team and clients research, collate and disseminate information as needed and can regularly be found at community events across the borough.

Jane Glaysher-White - Development Worker
Jane started work as an Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) trainee in 2002 after having a career break following the birth of her daughter and realising that her skills were outdated and needed refreshing.

Although her role constantly changes, with every day bringing new faces and challenges, Jane’s duties do include supporting and helping clients with all aspects in the development of business plans, promoting and providing information on the Women’s Enterprise Initiative and arranging network events and workshops.
