Top employee award for Rochdale firm
Date published: 02 June 2009
A Rochdale firm has been awarded for making their staff a top priority.
Jackson, Jackson and Sons have beaten the Co-operative and the Trafford Centre to win a top award for going the extra mile to support and retain employees.
They picked up the prestigious Positive Change Management Award at the Greater Manchester Employer Coalition Awards Ceremony, at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel last Thursday (28 May)
The family-run business is based at Red Lane, Rochdale. They provide a wide range of building and social housing services to clients from both the public and private sectors.
The nomination for the award was submitted on behalf of the company by Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Manager at Jackson's, Beverley Sexton.
Jackson, Jackson & Sons Ltd consider their employees to be their most valuable asset and in 2008 the company was also recognised as an “Investor in People.”
In 2008, a member of staff sustained serious injuries as a result of a road traffic accident, including multiple fractures to one of his legs. The employee’s job was kept open until he was eventually able to return to work. The accident has left the staff member with a permanent disability but with a little support he is able to do his job effectively.
Penny Sharp, Head of Regeneration at Rochdale Council, said: “This award recognises the commitment of the company, its directors and managers to their workforce. They’re really working hard to retain and develop existing staff and boost morale – and also to benefit the wider community with employees supporting apprentices and work experience students.
“Many other businesses are battling to survive but here’s a brilliant example of a local firm that’s investing in their people and making sure they’ve got a great workforce to help them stay competitive for the future.”
