Building Trades Agency continues despite losing funding
Date published: 10 July 2007
The Building Trades Agency (BTA) formally run by Rochdale Council and West Pennine Housing Association has been closed. This was due to the lack of funding by the major funders Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and New Deal for Communities. The employees of BTA found this to be unacceptable, saying that the BTA had been a valuable tool in the fight against unemployment in the borough of Rochdale, for the last 10 years.
Employees Gary Goodall, Cliff Rogers and Frank Marsh have taken it upon themselves to carry on the BTA in the form of a Community Interest Company (Social Enterprise), this is a non profit making business, turning all surpluses back into the business.
To increase their profile as a community organisation in the borough, the Building Trades Agency are inviting all DIY enthusiasts to their training centre for an open day on 23 July.
On the day the group will be offering construction training in plastering, wall/floor tiling, bricklaying, blockpaving, flagging, guttering amp; fascia fixing and basic plumbing. Courses cost £50 per person per day.
