Rochdale Town Centre Business Awards

Date published: 16 August 2007

The first ever Rochdale Town Centre Business Awards is now well under way and two of the categories for awards are Best Service Provider and Best Food Retailer.

During the competition, 10 food retailer and 31 service providers, covering sectors such as banks/finance, mobile phones, hairdressers, employment agencies etc. were reviewed by Storecheckers’ Mystery Shopping Team.

All entries to the competition were visited by members of the Research team who went into the relevant business and made an enquiry or purchase and used the opportunity to assess the branch standards and appearance of staff, as well as looking at the key areas of staff attitude and service.

All entries to the competition were monitored using the same criteria, thus allowing true 'like for like' comparison to be made between all of the businesses within the centre of Rochdale.

Best Service Provider
Official Sponsor of this award is Rochdale Town Centre Management

Debbie O’Brien, Rochdale Town Centre Manager said: “We have chosen to sponsor this award because in our Town Centre we feel that there are many different excellent Service Providers such as Museums, Banks and Travel Agents that need to be recognized for their excellence.  These businesses are the backbone of the town and without them we would not have such a good reputation for customer service”.

The average score for the service providers was 89%, another excellent result.  20 of the 31 service providers scored over 90%, including 2 with '100%'. Only 5 of the others scored below 85%.

Best Food Retailer
Official Sponsor of this award is China City Restaurant

Susan Chee from China City Restaurant on Nelson Street said: “As a new business to Rochdale Town Centre, China City is keen to support the award for ‘Best Food Retailer”.  We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and attention to detail and believe that this should be carried throughout the Town.  We wholeheartedly support the Rochdale Town Centre Business Awards as they will bring attention to great aspects of the Town.”

Food retailers were more consistent than the service providers producing an average score of 93%.  3 of the 10 entries scored 100% and a further 3 between 90% and 99% - none of the food retailers scored below 84% - a consistently strong result from Rochdale's food outlets.
