eCommerce the right move for Lancashire Wallpaper

Date published: 08 April 2009

Rochdale-based Lancashire Wallpaper and Paint boosted their web presence recently through the launch of their new eCommerce website, giving the Manchester Old Road company a 24-hour shop window for their wallpaper, decorating tools, borders and paints.

Built by the web design team at Rochdale Online, the site offers customers the opportunity to purchase items every day of the year and have them delivered to any location in the UK.

Martyn Sharpe, co-owner of Lancashire Wallpaper and Paint, says that the eCommerce website is ideally suited to reach customers throughout the country, while their shop on Manchester Old Road remains open for local clients.

"We're pleased with the site and we should get more and more visits as the weeks go by," said Mr Sharpe. "The development side of things was really good. The web design team at Rochdale Online were helpful and amenable and we're definitely pleased with the outcome.

"I think it's bordering on critical to have a web presence these days. Any business that does not have one is going to struggle. I am not the most computer literate but if I can not find something on Google or a company does not have a website then I tend to stop looking.

"Having an eCommerce site was definitely the right option for us because it acts as an advert and as a shop and we can reach people across the UK. I hope things will mushroom for us now that we have improved our online presence."

Mr Sharpe's sentiments were supported by members of the Rochdale Online web design team, who believe that the internet is playing an ever important role in the retail market.

Technical Director Ian Kimber said: "Today's public are increasingly turning to the internet as their first port of call for shopping. Often users will spend time researching their purchases and then turn to an eCommerce solution for ease of purchase and delivery. A website as a shop-window for your retail business is, these days, only part of the story and it's becoming more important to offer online purchasing as an additional outlet."

Web designer Jon Pudny said: "The overall cost of building an eCommerce website is considerably less than your traditional shop overheads such as rent of property and staff costs, plus there is the added benefit of your online storefront being open 24/7."

The Lancashire Wallpaper website offers customers the choice of hundreds of different wallpapers available to buy online, while people can narrow down their search to find their ideal design, colour and price range. The site also offers customers advice about hanging wallpaper, the opportunity to request free samples and explore wallpaper pattern books with large, colourful preview images.
