Rochdale Council is leading the way when it comes to helping businesses with their cash flow in the current economic climate. A survey of local authorities in the North-West, by the Civil Engineering Contractors’ Association, showed Rochdale Council is paying bills promptly - within ten days - and is one of only two authorities in the region to offer meet the buyer the schemes.

Andy Zuntz, Executive Director for Rochdale Council said: "The Council recognises that cash flow is a serious issue for businesses in this difficult time. Councillors therefore took a decision to pay all our bills promptly to aid local, and other companies. This is one of a number of measures that the Council is taking to assist local businesses."

The survey found 100 per cent are paying promptly with 44 per cent paying within 10 days, well above the national average. The other Local Authorities in the region paying within ten days are Blackburn with Darwell, Chester City and Ribble Valley.

Lord Mandelson introduced the 10 day payment initiative at the time of last year’s pre-Budget Report.
