Diane Pilling named Ambassador for Women in Business

Date published: 21 August 2007

Diane Pilling of Affordable Accounts has been named as an Ambassador for Women in Business in a new national Government initiative.

Ms Pilling will join a network of 1,000 volunteers who have pledged their support to encourage new female entrepreneurs, boosting the number of women in business.

The new Women Ambassador Programme was officially launched at London’s Lancaster House, where details of the scheme were unveiled to Ms Pilling and her new colleagues.

Ms Pilling said: “We had a fantastic day, and I feel excited and privileged about the role. As an ambassador, my primary aim is to make women realise that they can actually step forward and start their own business.”

During the event Industry Minister Margaret Hodge highlighted the need to encourage entrepreneurship among women in the UK in the same way they have in the USA. If this were to be achieved we would have 700,000 more businesses in Britain today.

Highlighting the importance of the ambassador programme, she stated: “We know it is particularly important for women to have somebody to confide in and with whom they can discuss their problems.”

In her ambassador role, Ms Pilling will be speaking to women’s groups, university students and schoolchildren about
the challenges involved in running a business.
