'Scam' company wound up in public interest
Date published: 15 March 2009
A Rochdale company is to be wound up in the public interest after failing to deliver on a promise "to assist fraud victims of elaborate scams carried out on an international scale that invariably involve corrupt lawyers, bankers, officials and more".
European Mediation demanded 10% of a claim upfront, arguing that they could get compensation from EU funds that didn't exist.
The firm has one director, Peter Francis Garlick, 65, who resigned in October last year only to be re-appointed again in November, while secretary Stephen Gilbey has been a director at a number of companies that have been dissolved.
The Official Receiver have been appointed as liquidators, with a court hearing set for 5 May.
Anyone who has lost money through the company should contact The Official Receiver, Public Interest Unit, PO Box 326, 17-21 Chorlton Street, Manchester, M60 3ZZ or telephone 0161 934 4182.
