PDS takes over glazing company

Date published: 02 March 2009

A Rochdale door and window manufacturer have acquired glazing company Acorn Glass; a move which they believe will create more jobs in the area.

The acquisition of the Rochdale glazing company has bought the team at PDS, based in Littleborough, up to 100 employees.

Managing Director, Tim Fairley said: “We are maintaining an optimistic outlook during these tough times.

“We are lucky to be in the position where we are recruiting rather then making redundancies, one of the reasons behind this is due to our multi skilled workforce. If orders for door sets are quiet, we’ll simply transfer the team into other areas of the business, in our case windows and joinery.”

PDS (Performance Doorset Solutions) moved to Greenvale Business Park, Littleborough in 2007 and have since created a further 50 jobs. They acquired City Joinery in 2008 which led the company to diversify into windows and joinery and expand their premises to house an additional factory finishing plant and state of the art woodworking machinery.

The takeover of Acorn, which will manufacture the glazing for PDS doorsets and windows, has created an extra seven jobs for the Rochdale area.

“At the moment sales are 48% up on last year, a great achievement considering the current economy," continued Mr Fairley. "We are cautious and mindful of the current economic climate, but we are not afraid and will continue to invest in our local community.”
