Sustainable travel plans

Date published: 09 October 2007

Do you have problems with parking? Is there limited access to your site? Do you have an Environmental Management System? Are you looking for planning permission, but access is an issue? All these questions have a common theme, and could be over come with the development and implementation of a travel plan within your organisation.

A travel plan assesses all travelling that is imperative to your business, whether it be: employee commuting; stationary deliveries; visitors; waste collections; or reps travelling the width and length of the UK, and establishes how efficient the current situation is, and leads to a more sustainable approach to travel.

Suggestions include: converting pool cars to LPG; careful route planning; initiating car share schemes; providing secure and convenient cycle parking; flexi-time hours (leads to less congestion at peak times); ensuring pedestrian access is safe, well maintained and well lit; and provision of up-to-date information on public transport – location of stops/stations, current timetables, and prices of season tickets.

The implementation of a travel plan involves everyone in the company, and can lead to cost savings, improved communications and lower the company’s impact on the environment.

Resource Efficiency Review

Does your company need to place an emphasis on efficiency? Would you like to reduce the company’s: energy use; waste disposal bill; and/or water amp; sewage costs? We could help you achieve these goals, by identifying areas in which efficiency can improve such as heating systems, transport costs and lighting.
