Council Spending Uncovered: Pensions

A new report from the TaxPayers' Alliance Council Spending Uncovered, published last Friday, claims that £1 in every £5 of council tax is spent on local government pensions and reveals Rochdale to be 155th of the 442 local authorities listed by pension costs.
The average Council spent £10M on pensions in 2006/7, a 13% increase on the previous year, a total cost to ratepayers across the country of £4.6 billion
Rochdale Council's total spend for 2006/7 is listed as £11,900,000, an increase of 10.2% over the previous year and the equivalent of a charge per head of population of £58 a year.
