Further red tape cuts needed to help business
Date published: 12 December 2008
Commenting on the Government announcement that business is saving an estimated £1.9 billion a year through cuts in red tape, Samantha Dunbar, Policy Manager for Employment, Skills and Workplace Legislation at Greater Manchester Chamber, said: “Although any cuts in red tape are welcome in this difficult climate, much more needs to be done to ensure that businesses are not burdened with unnecessary legislation.
“There is not a detailed enough picture of whether SMEs are benefitting specifically as a result of Government measures to cut red tape. The announcements will raise a few eyebrows amongst smaller companies – the fact is these businesses are still being hampered by bureaucratic procedures they could do without.
“The Chamber is therefore calling on the Government to go one step further and freeze all non-essential upcoming legislation with no financial benefit. This will allow business owners to get on with their number one priority of managing and running their businesses and protecting their livelihoods and jobs.”
