Call for nominations

Local charity and grant maker the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester is calling for nominations from Rochdale businesses for its prestigious Responsibility in Action Award, sponsored by Cheshire Building Society.

The award seeks to identify and recognise companies in Greater Manchester who are able to demonstrate a company-wide commitment to corporate social responsibility.  A special judging panel will look a areas such a well-being of staff, investment in communities, best practice in the workplace, protecting the environment, and promoting education, diversity, ethical stance and sustainability.

The Award will be made at a glittering awards ceremony to be held in November 2007 in Manchester as part of the Community Foundation’s annual ‘Night of Community Stars’. Night of Community Stars is a unique event hosted by Andy Crane that celebrates and recognises the achievements and real difference that local community volunteers and businesses make to peoples lives across Greater Manchester.

Nominations can be put forward by both employees and non-employees and can be made by email, letter or fax to the Community Foundation briefly stating in no more than 200 words which company is being nominated and why they deserve to win. Nominators will be asked to include a name, address and contact number for both themselves and the company they are nominating. The deadline for nominations is 31 October 2007.

Nick Massey from the Community Foundation comments: “We know that there are lots of businesses in the region who are doing a fantastic job when it comes to CSR, and we’d like them to come forward and tell us about it.”

Maria Mathieson, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for Cheshire Building Society adds “The Cheshire Building Society recognises the effort and impact that companies can make to in the workplace, the communities in which they work and live and their wider environment.  It is for this reason that we would like to recognise these efforts by sponsoring this award.”

The award is open to any business in Greater Manchester. Nominations can be emailed to nominations@communityfoundation.co.uk, posted to Jean Mills, The Community Foundation, Beswick House, Beswick Row, Manchester M4 4LA  or faxed to 0161 214 0941.
