Getting businesses in the Christmas Spirit

Date published: 03 December 2007

Groundwork  Oldham  amp;  Rochdale  Environmental Business Services team would like  to invite employers and employees alike to join us for mince pies and hot  beverages.   However,  there  is a catch.  You will need to be dressed warmly, with sturdy shoes, ready and raring to plant some trees!

“Planting  trees  is  one  of  the  easiest  ways  to  offset  your  carbon footprint,” explains Victoria Handforth, Environmental Business Advisor for Groundwork  Oldham amp; Rochdale.  “Carbon offsetting is a way of compensating for  the  emissions  produced  from  everyday activities with an equivalent carbon dioxide saving.  Trees absorb carbon dioxide and thus remove it from the atmosphere.”

Katy  Lloyd, Conservation Project Officer for Groundwork Oldham amp; Rochdale, says, “Each tree planted will offset your environmental impact by capturing approximately  730  kg  CO2  emissions  over  its  lifetime  of  100 years. Calculate  your  organisation’s carbon footprint with www.carbontrust.co.uk and  work  out  how  many  trees need planting to make your business carbon neutral.”

This  is  not  only  an  excellent  networking  opportunity  for businesses throughout  Oldham  amp;  Rochdale  but also a unique chance to give something back to the local community.

On  Wednesday  12 December we will be in the Fullwood area of Oldham, and on  Thursday  13  December the site is Boarshaw Clough in Middleton. Both sessions  commence at 2pm and will last for two hours. The trees, equipment
and refreshments are all supplied free of charge.

For  further  information,  and to confirm your places on a session, please contact Kate Harcus.
