Walkers Transport key workers raise over £2,000 for charity

A massive £2,086 was raised at the event by way of a charity raffle

Key workers from Rochdale-based Walkers Transport have raised over £2,000 for the Children Today charity.

Workers were welcomed to the company’s Leeds depot for a ‘Party in the Yard’ to say a massive ‘thank you’ for their relentless efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A massive £2,086 was raised at the event by way of a charity raffle, where several of Walkers’ supportive partners kindly donated prizes such as a 5* spa weekend, Manchester City tickets, 58-inch TV and much more.

Thanks to the kind-hearted team, all donations went to Children Today, a charity which works to change the lives of children and young people with disabilities across the UK everyday by providing vital and specialised equipment to families in need.

Walkers’ Group Managing Director, Jason Scott said: “It was great to see so many of our colleagues come together for this event.

“It has been a tough couple of years, and we wanted to let our team know how much we appreciate all their hard work. It was inspiring to see everyone’s generosity in doing so, and the amount raised on the day is an amazing achievement.”

Elizabeth Oakes, Regional Fundraising Manager for Children Today, attended the event and was thrilled with the support from Walkers’ key workers.

She said: “I want to thank Walkers for inviting us to their amazing party. Everything about it was extremely well organised and such a great event which was enjoyed by all attending.

“I would like to thank Jason Scott, Chris Burley and everyone at Walkers for supporting Children Today and to all the staff who were so unselfish and giving.

“This generosity will mean the world to the family it helps to provide specially adapted equipment for.”

Founded in 1979, Walkers Transport operates a fleet of vehicles from depots in Leeds, Manchester and the Midlands, delivering over 1.2 million pallets a year.

The company also operates the Northern Hub of Europe’s largest pallet delivery network, Palletways, from its Leeds facility.
