Foreign Secretary to meet business leaders

Date published: 16 September 2008

Foreign Secretary David Miliband will meet Manchester business leaders on Sunday.

Mr Miliband will be the keynote speaker at a Labour Party Conference fringe event organised by Greater Manchester Chamber and Business For New Europe (BNE).

The EU Means Business event will look at issues in relation to UK business and Europe.

Patrick Prinsloo, Local Manager for Manchester at Greater Manchester Chamber, said: “This will be a unique opportunity for business to hear from someone at the heart of government.

“It will also be a chance to learn about the many opportunities there are for UK companies in the EU.”

BNE is an independent coalition of business leaders, which puts forward a positive case for reform in Europe.

Zaki Cooper, Director of Business for New Europe, said: “Thousands of companies in Greater Manchester do business with the rest of Europe. In total, at least 750,000 companies across the UK trade with the European single market.

“The single market has been the EU’s great achievement. We should celebrate this and at the same time continue to press for the dismantling of remaining barriers.”

The EU Means Business event will take place at 6pm on Sunday 21 September in the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
