Groundwork Promotes Car Free Rochdale
Date published: 11 September 2008
Get on your bike for car free day
Monday 22 of September is Car Free Day and Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale is urging people and businesses in Rochdale to reduce the amount of journeys made by car.
Rochdale has seen one of the largest increases in car ownership in recent years with many more journeys being made by car. Groundwork believes that Car Free Day is a time for highlighting the benefits associated with cutting car use in urban areas.
As the climate heats up, and fuel prices increase, World Car Free Day aims to take the heat off the planet, reduce carbon emissions, and decrease the strain on finite resources such as oil by switching to alternative modes of transport such as cycling, walking and public transport.
Emma Inott, Environmental Business Advisor, said: “By leaving your car at home for Car Free Day, you will be reducing local pollution, reducing local congestion and the risk of accidents.”
"Even greater benefits would be felt if you or your business were to commit to going car free on a longer basis, including being potentially fitter."
Groundwork’s Environmental Business Services is able to offer a Transport Review and give support in developing and implementing sustainable Transport Plans tailored to your business including ideas such as providing public transport information for staff and visitors and support for in-house car sharing schemes.
If you are a business wanting to reduce the amount of car miles traveled by your employees, contact Emma Inott at Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale on 0161 624 1444 for further details.
