Photographers have been raising money for NHS Charities Together
Rochdale photographer Karl Whitehead has joined the national initiative ‘Photographers without Frontiers’ to raise much needed funds for the NHS.
Photographers without Frontiers was launched earlier this year and sees over 100 photographers from all over the UK come together to say thank you to the NHS through photography.
When the public donate to the cause, photographers involved then offer families a chance to capture a precious image of their loved ones with the gift of a portrait in return.
At the time of publication, the fundraising initiative has raised £5,444.
Karl Whitehead from Photography by Karl in Milnrow said: “Photographers without Frontiers is a great initiative to be involved with, what we ask is for people to make a minimum donation of £10 through our just giving page to the ‘NHS Charities Together’ and in return they will receive a voucher from us which entitles them to a free portrait session with myself and a web image for them to use online saying they have supported the NHS.
“With everything that has been going on over the last few months I wanted to give something back to the NHS and show my appreciation to them. I sometimes feel they do not get the recognition they truly deserve for what they do for our country.
“People really recognize the importance of capturing special moments of our loved ones, children, family and pets, which is why we thought as photographers we should all come together in what is a very competitive industry and make a difference to a special charity. We want to give something back to the communities in which we live and work, along with raising these vital funds for the wonderful work that the NHS Charities Together carries out.”
All the pictures taken of those who have donated will be published as a hardback book and a copy will be presented to the Queen, amongst other important figures.
NHS Charities Together play an important role in contributing to provide services that are above and beyond what the NHS alone can provide. They are also a forum for nationwide fundraising and advocacy campaigns, offering specialist advice and guidance and bespoke training, as well as access to online resources for those who need them.

Photography by Karl also recently achieved first place in a national photography competition for his work at his studio at Albert Mill, organised by the Ultimate Photographer Group. The competition win, which saw entries from some of the country’s top photographers, meant that the family who featured in the entered portraits won £1,000 worth of Wall-Art for their home.
He said: "I am so proud to present this wonderful family with their prize! I was honoured to be invited to take part in this prestigious competition and despite some wonderful entries by some of the country’s top photographers… I was awarded 1st place."
