Above the big boys in industry league table

Date published: 01 August 2008

Rochdale based start up, ‘Office Supplies Now’, has beaten off stiff competition from established national dealers to secure a coveted second place position in the Independent Dealer Success League 2008.

The League, largely considered as the Oscars of the office supplies industry, judges the success of independent businesses by analysing two years worth of accounts to establish their top line sales growth, costs, overheads and gross profit.

Office Supplies Now, which only celebrated its third year in business in January this year, emerged ahead of older companies with turnovers in excess of 22 million to scoop the number two spot.

Owners, John and Avril Fitton, credit their policy of establishing a close customer relationship with customers through regular face-to-face contact as crucial to their success.

Says Avril; “Between us, John and I have fifteen years experience in this industry, and one thing we’ve learned is the value of having face-to-face contact with your customers.

“In this age so much business is done over the internet but we’ve done our best to get out there and meet customers so we can gain an understanding of their requirements and they get to know us as a team rather than just an email address. This strategy has been paying off so far.”

As the company is only just two years old, this is the first time Office Supplies Now has been able to be considered for a ranking in the League. Says John: “We’ve invested a lot of hard work to achieve these results and this acknowledgement is reassurance that we’re driving the business in the right direction.

“Two years in to it, we’re seeing that companies have confidence in our brand and are moving their custom to us. We now need to set our sights on higher goals and continue to deliver the value and excellent customer service for which we’re renowned.”
