Carcraft re-structuring
Date published: 10 December 2007
The UK Car Group - the company behind many of the leading automotive brands in the country, including the UK’s largest used car hypermarket group, Carcraft – has announced a re-structuring of its vehicle preparation activities.
The expanded preparation centres will service the majority of the UK Car Group sites across the country, providing comprehensive 120-point checks on all the used cars the sites sell.
The company initially announced that as many as 49 jobs were at risk at its Rochdale site, due to a lack of suitable premises in the area for one of its centralised vehicle preparation centres. Following extensive consultation, the majority of the affected staff have been able to relocate this week to other UK Car Group sites in the region, resulting in a reduction to 21 jobs now being lost. Ongoing support is being provided to those who have been affected by the redundancies.
As part of the company’s pledge to keep redundancies to a minimum, its Rochdale site has also been chosen as one of the test sites for Carcraft Auto Centres, a brand new car servicing venture launching next week.
With over 8,000 cars in stock and over 40 leading manufacturers represented at any one time, Carcraft is the largest brand within the Group. Still family owned, it is one of Rochdale’s true business success stories. Having started out as a single showroom on Water Street back in 1951, it has since expanded to become one of the UK’s leading retailers of nearly new and used cars, with ten hypermarket sites nationwide.
The UK Car Group as a whole operates from 21 locations across the UK.
