Chamber of Commerce reaction to congestion charge referendum
Date published: 28 July 2008
Carol Hopkins, local manager for Rochdale at Greater Manchester Chamber, said: "This is the sensible way forward on what is a highly important issue for Rochdale's future. It is essential, however, that all businesses have the same opportunity as residents to have their say on these proposals and that the voice of business is clearly articulated. GMPTA must remember that some business owners may not be resident in Greater Manchester and therefore any such referendum must take account of the wider implications of the proposed charging and transport investment scheme.
"It is now more important than ever that all businesses are kept fully informed and have a thorough knowledge of the proposed congestion charge and transport investment package. The Chamber will continue to work with all Rochdale businesses to ensure that they have access to the full, up-to-date facts on the plans and can therefore make an informed decision as to whether or not to support the proposals."
