Deliveroo rides into Rochdale

Date published: 03 September 2018

Food delivery company Deliveroo has launched in Rochdale and is aiming to partner with 30 eateries and takeaways by the end of the year.

Deliveroo has an app and website and works with independent eateries and takeaways as well as well-known high street establishments.

Dan Warne, Managing Director of Deliveroo in UK and Ireland, "Launching in Rochdale is a key milestone for Deliveroo. Rochdale has a thriving foodie community and a wide range of restaurants, so we are excited to connect them. We look forward to working with our new restaurant partners to reach a new customer base and expand their businesses.”

The company says more than 20 jobs will be created in Rochdale over the course of the first year, with the majority of these being Deliveroo riders.

However, Deliveroo's hiring conditions, labelled 'bogus self-employment' by Frank Field MP, chairman of the Parliamentary work and pensions committee, have been called into question and the company is the subject of a parliamentary inquiry into the pay and conditions of its couriers.

In June, a group of 50 Deliveroo couriers won a six-figure payout from the takeaway delivery firm in a settlement of an employment rights claim.
