Walkers Transport has launched a new training centre designed to upskill its managers and increase their awareness of health and safety responsibilities having recently been awarded accredited training centre status from the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
Walkers’ IOSH courses, which will start from September, are open to managers at its depots in Rochdale and Leeds, and to other members within the wider Palletways network. The courses will be delivered by Walkers’ group health and safety manager and chartered member of IOSH, Zoe Lunn.
Ms Lunn said: “I have been an IOSH trainer for many years, so it made sense to bring the training in-house. The four-day classroom-based scheme has an exam and an assessment at the end, which delegates need to complete within two weeks of the course finishing. IOSH validates the exam results and assessment paper and if successful, delegates receive an IOSH accredited certificate.
“The course is aimed at middle managers who deal with the day-to-day running of operations and manage other members of staff too. It’s been designed to help raise awareness of their health and safety responsibilities.”
Walkers Transport is one of over 115 independent transport providers that are part of Palletways’ UK network.
The Palletways Group comprises 400 depots and 20 hub operations, through which it provides collection and distribution services across 20 European countries, including the UK.
