Jobs lost as Middleton Poundworld to close
Date published: 19 July 2018
The Middleton Poundworld store is to close alongside 78 other stores nationwide, the discount retailer announced on Thursday (19 July).
This will result in the redundancies of 10 employees in Middleton, and 907 employees across the country when the stores close by the end of July.
The distribution centre operations will also close on Friday 20 July, resulting in the redundancies of 299 employees across the distribution centre and head office functions.
Further to this, the remaining 112 stores are scheduled to close by 10 August. Employees will be informed directly as to the exact date of individual closures. This will unfortunately result in the redundancies of 1,432 employees.
The budget retailer appointed Clare Boardman and Daniel Butters, restructuring partners at Deloitte, as joint administrators after a rescue deal fell through.
Discussions will continue between the administrators and interested parties for the potential sale of parts of the remaining business.
