Jobs lost as Rochdale Poundworld to close

Date published: 17 July 2018

The Rochdale Poundworld store is to close alongside 39 other stores nationwide, the discount retailer has announced.

This will result in the redundancies of 16 employees in Rochdale, and 531 employees across the country when the stores close on Tuesday 24 July.

The news follows 105 store closures, announced earlier this month. Middleton and Kingsway stores have not been named as closing so far.

The budget retailer appointed Clare Boardman and Daniel Butters, restructuring partners at Deloitte, as joint administrators after a rescue deal fell through.

Discussions continue between the Administrators and interested parties for the potential sale of part, or parts, of the remaining business.

Clare Boardman, joint administrator, commented: “We would like to thank all the employees for their continued support and commitment during this difficult time. We are keeping staff appraised of developments as they happen.”

Poundworld has confirmed that the local branch to close will be the Kingsway Poundworld Plus Store, not the one in the centre on Yorkshire Street.
