A former student went back to school for Women In Engineering Day to inspire future female engineers.
Milly Whitaker works at spring manufacturer Hanson Springs Ltd in Rochdale and used to go to Whitworth Community High School.
She returned to school to talk to students and explained about different routes into becoming an engineer.
Fatima Sethi, 15, said: “Milly explained that you can do A levels and a degree or you could do what she did and get an apprenticeship, learn on the job and still study for a degree.
“She explained that if an employer was faced with two candidates, one of whom had done A levels and a degree and another who had experience then done a degree, they would view the person with experience more highly.
“An apprenticeship is not something I had any personal or family experience of or thought about.
“I want a career in medical physics as I know I want to go into the science field.”
