Business ambassador of twin town in Pakistan meets with Rochdale Mayor

Date published: 04 June 2018

A business ambassador for Rochdale’s twin town in Pakistan  met with the Mayor of Rochdale to develop a trade link.

Sohail Ahmed Anjaum Ansari, Business Ambassador of Sahiwal, in Punjab, Pakistan, and former President of the Chamber of Industry and Trade, was joined by Solicitor Sohaib Abmed, businessman Mian Mohammad Ashraf Ansari, Adeel Mushtaq, and Liaqat Ali, who helped to make the largest pancake in Rochdale, entering the town’s name into the Guinness Book of Record.

Following the Mayor of Sahiwal's visit to Rochdale at the Mayor Making ceremony on 15 May, the delegates visited the Town Hall and met with Mayor Mohammed Zaman in the Mayor's parlour.

The delegation thanked the Mayor, Rochdale Council and people of the Borough of Rochdale, for their continued commitment to the twinning of Sahiwal and Rochdale and to improve the quality of thousands of people’s lives in Sahiwal.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, public relations officer of the Sahiwal Working Party, provided a brief of all the projects developed since 1989 and the benefits of these projects to the people of Sahiwal.

There was a project about developing businesses between these two towns, which needed to be revived.

Both the Mayor and Mr Ansari agreed to exchange delegations from both towns and revive some of the effective projects and explore the needs of customers, what can be provided and to develop or revive these projects.

The Mayor extended his good wishes to the people of Sahiwal, and presented a plaque to Mr Ansari, who also signed the visitor's book.
