Poundworld stores at risk of closure through rescue deal
Date published: 27 April 2018
Poundworld on Yorkshire Street, Rochdale
Discount retailer Poundworld is the latest store affected by the high street crisis, with owners considering a rescue deal.
In a similar move to Carpetright and New Look, Poundworld is the third chain with stores in the borough to instigate a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).
Under the deal, more than a quarter of Poundworld’s 355 stores could close – with as many as 100 stores at risk.
Locally, there are three Poundworld stores on Yorkshire Street, Kingsway and in the Middleton shopping centre.
The company has not revealed which stores could close or how many local staff members could be affected.
Although a number of Carpetright and New Look stores are set to close, both the branches will remain open.
