New film production company launched in Rochdale

A new film production organisation was recently launched at KYP.

Kashmiri Productions UK, a non-profit organisation that will be based at KYP in Rochdale, is the idea of local graduates of the University of Salford and University of Bolton, Saba Andleeb and Zafar Iqbal.

The company will organise, produce, train and deliver productions for communities, organisations, individuals or groups. 

Chairwoman and actress Saba commented: “We always wanted to set up a proper community organisation where we can utilise our training and experience so that locals from mixed communities can benefit maximum and this will be a great platform for everyone.

"We are thankful to Zulf Ali, chairman of KYP and Javed Rehman, vice-chairman of KYP.

"We have already started working on our first community film project so watch this space”.

Zafar, who is an actor, filmmaker and teacher, said: “Each of my production focuses on community issues, be it drugs, unemployment, relationships and youth, etc. As a freelancer, I am looking forward in providing my professional services to the KPUK.”

The inauguration was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Deputy Council leader Councillor Daalat Ali, Councillor Shakil Ahmed, locals, artists, directors and distinguished guests from across the north of England.

There were presentations, speeches, cake and ribbon cuttings, plus a tour of the film production office and dinner.

Mayor Ian Duckworth said: “I wish Kashmiri Productions UK all the best for their venture.

"Rochdale is the birth place of the Co-op and now it‘s a birth place for Kashmiri Productions UK.

"Zafar and Saba are two professional individuals and graduates so I am looking forward to their forthcoming projects and they have my full support”.

Councillor Ali said: “I am aware of the work Zafar and Saba have carried out in the past and I feel very proud of them. I have full faith in them that they will deliver productions that will benefit targeted communities and they have my full support”.

Councillor Shakil Ahmed said: “It is always very satisfying in seeing committed individuals coming forward from within under represented communities to promote their language, culture and heritage through film projects.

"Zafar and Saba both are from my ward so I am more excited to support them with their projects”.
