Rochdale company create obesity tackling pizza!

Date published: 20 March 2018

A new Rochdale food company has created a '170 calorie pizza' - to tackle obesity.

The pizza, named the 'Lo-Dough Ham and Mushroom Slimmer' may be one of the lowest calorie full pizzas ever to have been made.

Rob Wales and Ben Holden, co-founders of Lo-Dough at Dane Mill, have said they are “dedicated to bringing low calorie food to Rochdale” after reading in the news about the government’s plan to implement a 'calorie cap” this month.

Public Health England (PHE) announced on 14 January plans for a “calorie-cap” on supermarket ready meals and fast food dishes. The suggested ruling, which may come into effect in March, would limit breakfasts to 400 calories and lunches and dinners to 600 each.

Councillor Ann Stott, Shadow Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, Community & Culture; Health & Wellbeing said: “This is a brilliant initiative on behalf of Lo-Dough - a brand new Rochdale company focused on health and wellbeing.

“It is in line with the Local Authority's drive to cut down on obesity from a very early age. As a member of Health & Wellbeing, and the Obesity In Children Sub-group, I welcome wholeheartedly any initiative such as this aimed at community health.”

Owner of Quirky Catering and The Flying Horse, Ben Boothman said: “As a local business owner myself I fully support these guys and their quest to promote healthy living. Some great businesses starting out in Rochdale at the moment, it's only going to get better. Good work to Ben and Rob for starting this new venture in the town."
