George Chambers, an apprentice engineer from Newhey, was selected by Manchester College to receive the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA) Trainee of the Year award.
George received his award at the BAFSA annual general meeting and dinner held in Liverpool.
BAFSA is the UK’s leading professional trade association for the fire sprinkler industry - Rochdale was put on the map at this event thanks to George.
Gareth Fitton, Director at FVS, where George is a trainee, said: “We are extremely proud of George’s hard-working ethic and commitment and this is a thoroughly deserved award.
“We look forward to supporting George as he develops his career with us and continues to demonstrate the drive, talent and commitment he has so far in his time at FVS.”
Stephen Adamson, George's tutor at Manchester College, said: “George has always been a willing and able student whilst studying the qualification, actively carrying out installations in the workshop and demonstrating his servicing skills to the other learners in the group.
“The portfolio of evidence that George has produced is exemplary and the IQA of the college has praised his efforts.
“He deserves this accolade and if he continues in this manner he will be a credit to his company and the industry.”
George started at FVS Limited as an apprentice in January 2016. In October 2016, he commenced the L2 Certificate in Fire Sprinkler Installation.
