Leanne and Jack celebrate the Olde Boar's Head winning 'Best Regional Food Pub'
The Olde Boar’s Head in Middleton has won ‘Best Regional Pub’ at the JW Lees ‘Pub of the Year’ awards in Manchester on 12 July.
Leanne Clapperton, who has been landlady for around ten years, teamed up with good friend and local business man Jack Howard to create a new menu with longer hours after spotting a demand for quality food in Middleton.
Now serving until 8pm in the evenings and weekends, the business has been given a new lease of life with a menu boasting traditional pub fare and ‘the best burgers in the world’, served on bread from a local Jewish bakery and using local butchers, Lords of Middleton.
Mr Howard said: “It’s amazing to win regional pub of the year: thank you to my amazing staff and customers for your continued support. We were one of only three up overall in the company.
"With all our upcoming events like outdoor festivals and bars, and the UK’s best Take That tribute band next month, things have massively increased for the pub.”
The pub has a new chef starting next month, who has catered for the Midland Hotel, the Salford Lowry, Harvey Nichols and worked in the south of France.
The Olde Boar’s Head is understood to be the longest trading public house in the UK, having been trading continuously since 1632.
The Grade-II listed building is said to have given refuge to Bonny Prince Charlie in 1745, and notorious highwayman Dick Turpin is said to have stopped off there on his way to his execution in York.
