Rochdale Asian food and drink sector - HSE help

Date published: 24 April 2006

Members of the Rochdale Asian food and drink sector have the opportunity of help and advice from the Health and Safety Executive at two seminars this week as part of the HSE's Food Smart programme.

The HSE will speak at two Asian Business Federation (ABF) seminars  to enable companies to fully understand the legislation involved in the food and drink sector.

Around 40 businesses are expected at each session at the Mezbaan Restaurant at Deepdale in Preston on Wednesday (26 April). Bookings can be made via the ABF at 0045 607 0786.

HSE's External Relations Adviser Helen Goddard, who will be speaking at the events, says:

"HSE has teamed up with others bodies such as the North West Food Alliance and trading standards to help companies help them meet the legal requirements for safety in their business premises for customers and their own employees and in safe preparation of food.

"Food Smart has been developed by the ABF with partners, including HSE, and offers seminars such as these, plus a compliance check and training courses. There is now a requirement for all food based industries to have a food safety management system based on Hazardous A  Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles that look for potential food safety hazards and relevant controls to prevent them.

"Speaking at such events is one of the many innovative ways HSE is seeking to develop partnerships with a variety of organisations to work with a many industries and sectors to develop safe and manageable systems of work."
