Human Resource experts assist local businesses

Six months ago Adele Foster and Jayne Sanderson were advised that their employer had gone into administration and their jobs were no longer secure. Between them they resolved to formulate a “plan B” should the worst happen and began to research the idea of going into consultancy.
Both Adele and Jayne are Chartered Members of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and have a combined experience of over 15 years working within Human Resource (HR) Departments in local manufacturing companies, so they decided consultancy offered the potential to put their skills and experience to good use.
They began carrying out initial research and quickly discovered that there are thousands of companies within Rochdale and Oldham and a very small number of HR Consultants, indicating a large gap in the market.
With the persistent upward trend in employment legislation and the number of employment tribunal claims on the up, Adele and Jayne realised there is a need for small to medium enterprises to have good quality support in managing their staff.
They trialled the idea with two local businesses over a number of months: the outcome was better than they anticipated and both have now subscribed to the ‘HRassist’ business support package ensuring they benefit from ongoing assistance.
The trial also highlighted to Adele and Jayne that a very close relationship with the client is the key to giving good quality advice. Adele comments: "It seems to go hand in hand that you can only give specific advice to a business if you know how the business operates in the first place."
With that in mind, they decided to target a very specific market and become local consultants to local businesses, making it easier to carry out on site visits, building up key relationships. They also quickly realised that small businesses benefit from practical advice rather than text book answers and developed their services accordingly:
- Business Support Packages (Subscription Based)
- Consultancy (One-Off Project Work and Assignments)
- Training (Standard or Bespoke)
Jayne said: "We understand the market we are trying to target is very difficult to penetrate and traditionally has not used consultancy services, so we decided to offer a free one hour no obligation advisory session which can be used to discuss whatever HR related topic the client prefers."
