Business opportunity to question MEP's at breakfast briefing

Date published: 08 February 2006

Rochdale members of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce should, like all chamber members throughout Greater Manchester, have received a questionnaire asking their views on common European policies and the impact on their business.

The Chamber wants members to use the opportunity to shape the Chamber's European work and to focus their lobbying and representation activities in London and Brussels.

If you would like an electronic copy of the questionnaire, please click on the following link: http://www.gmchamber.co.uk/default.aspx?page=248 or email sandra.schmidt@gmchamber.co.uk.

The chamber hopes to present the preliminary results of this survey, and evidence about the impact of certain policies, at a planned MEP breakfast briefing.

The MEP Breakfast Briefing - Key Issues for Business in 2006 is on Friday, 17 February, 8:00 - 9:30 (Breakfast will be served from 7:40 onwards) at the Malmaison Hotel, Piccadilly, Manchester M1 and is FREE.

Members will have a chance to grill North West MEPs, including Chris Davies and Gary Titley, about key European issues affecting business in 2006 and beyond. Areas for discussion will include the implications of the new EU budget, European priorities for economic, environment and energy policy as well as employment and internal market issues.

Over-regulation is one of the biggest issues affecting member companies and with about 50 per cent of the regulatory burden on UK business stemming from European legislation, the impact of European polices on the competitiveness of business needs to be better understood.

There will be opportunities to ask questions and raise issues of concern to businesses. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
