Rochdale-based Greenage Utilities Ltd is looking to train and employ up to 200 people from across Greater Manchester.
In partnership with Rochdale Training, Greenage plan to recruit ambitious, technically minded individuals to perform Smart Meter installations and maintenance.
Greenage Utilities Ltd is a multi-utilities installations company that works with many FTSE100 utility providers in the UK. As the business continues to grow, it is looking to train dual fuel engineers and gas engineers to install Smart Meters as part of the governments Smart Metering Roll Out (50 million installations by 2020).
Having begun working with Rochdale Training twelve months ago, offering various apprenticeship contracts, Greenage are aiming to give more job opportunities to local people.
Estelle Quinn, of Greenage, said: “The director grew up in Kirkholt and never had these sorts of chances. He wants to offer the community the opportunities that he never had.”
Training for the role will involve a two-part course, with one half focusing on gas meter installation and maintenance, and the other half, electrical meter. Applicants will spend six weeks with Rochdale Training, before embarking on a four-week works placement at Greenage. Upon completion of the course, employees will be classed as Duel Fuel Engineers.
A training academy is currently under construction on Fishwick Street, with plans to go live on Monday 5 December.
No previous experience or training is required, and a wide range of applicants are encouraged; including college leavers, armed services, those recently made redundant and those currently unemployed.
Mark Whittaker, Business Development Advisor at Rochdale Training, said: “This is an exciting opportunity that will develop or boost a career into the already booming metering industry, not only getting people back into work, but upscaling them.”
