Beware of spam emails able to bypass leading software security platforms
Date published: 31 March 2016
Should you be infected by CrytoLocker or CryptoWall it is likely that you will lose your data
Over the past weeks there has been a considerable increase in the amount of spam emails that are able to bypass some of the leading software security platforms. Should you be infected by CrytoLocker or CryptoWall it is likely that you will lose your data. The latest ransomware will toggle your computer into a non-usable state until the ransom is paid.
Here Think4 IT Solutions of Heywood explain what can you do to protect your computer/s.
Do not open any kind of .zip, .doc or .docx file/attachment that comes in as email. Typically these emails will come from an unrecognised email address. The current most popular way is to be sent an email with "your invoice attached" with a document. If you are not expecting an invoice do not open it.
Make sure your business backup is up-to-date.
The most common solution after being infected is to flatten your system and start again.
With a good backup the loss of data will be minimal and disruption will also be reduced. To rebuild a business infrastructure (should the server be infected) will possible take hours/days, not minutes.
If you are in any doubts ask for advice.
The only way either Crypto can be activated is when you open the attachment. So if it looks suspicious do not opne it.
If you are still worried about the emails you receive, we can supply a filtering service to reduce unwanted emails even before they land in your inbox or on any device keeping you safe.
