Date published: 28 January 2016

Shoppers were up bright and early this morning (Thursday 28 January) for the opening of the new Lidl supermarket on Spotland Road.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Surinder and Cecile Biant, along with Town Crier Peter Taunton, officially declared the store open at 8.00am.

Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Surinder Biant said: “I am delighted to welcome the people of Rochdale here to the new Lidl store. There has been a lot of hard work involved and I am happy to finally declare the store open to the public.”

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Stuart Jardine, commented: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new and improved Lidl store to Rochdale. We can’t wait to reopen our doors and continue serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

Store Manager Benji Steele said: “I’m over the moon that the store is finally open again, everyone has been working very hard and this is a great step for Rochdale, the staff are as happy as the customers to be a part of it.”

The store, which has replaced the existing Lidl store on the Spotland Road site, includes a 1286m² sales area, in-store bakery, seven tills, 94 parking spaces, dedicated bicycle parking and customer toilets.
