Local Election 2014

David Alan Peter Kenworthy

UK Independence Party
North Middleton Ward

I retired from the Cheshire police in 1992 and have lived in Middleton on the edge of Langley since 1991.

I have a degree in Classics and have been a teacher.

I have a long term interest in history and politics, but have only recently decided to become involved with UKIP.

I want Britain to be an independent country again because I am convinced that the EU has been a disaster for Britain.

I am appalled that so many men, including my grandfather, father and uncles fought in two world wars to preserve our freedom, yet their sacrifice is being betrayed by the current generation of politicians who are moving away from democracy towards elitism, and control of the people through low wages and high taxation.

However, this is not immediately relevant to local government.

I have to admit I am a novice here, but if elected I would work to reduce the continuing waste of money and make sure that really necessary services get priority.

We are hugely overtaxed, and I would like to see council tax held or reduced; business rates minimised, and car park charges in Middleton abolished.

Bus services are being reduced where I live, and I would like to see small independent people carriers used as buses at low cost on a wider range of local routes, including to shopping centres.

I would also try to get the virtual abolition of white line painting on all our roads. We are in the middle of a recession, yet everywhere we see new white lines appearing, which are unnecessary and benefit only the contractors. How is it that they flourish while the road surface deteriorates?

Local footpaths are neglected, yet we recently saw large numbers of new lampposts replacing perfectly functioning old ones: why?

Anyone who wants this kind of careless waste of your money to cease will get my full attention.
