Local Election 2012

Labour Party
Bamford Ward

Since last autumn, I have been out and about talking to residents across the ward in Brimrod, Sudden, Marland, Oakenrod and Bamford. Residents have told me of the many local issues that concern them:

  • The problem of the derelict, unoccupied houses at the end of Holborn Street that attract anti-social behaviour and are causing a misery for residents living nearby.
  • The traffic problems around Brimrod with vehicles speeding and often ignoring no entry signs
  • he dreadful state of some back alleys in Brimrod and Sudden that need a good clean up
  • The need for better road safety in Oakenrod and a pelican crossing at the big junction of Roch Valley Way/Bury Road/Sandy Lane
  • The unacceptable reduction in the 167 bus service that will leave many residents in Bamford without a direct bus link to Manchester outside of the morning rush hour
  • Concerns over the new cemetery site

I work in the National Health Service and I know the damage that the Tory/Lib Dem policy will do to our NHS and we will see a steady privatisation of our health service and we will end up with a system like in America where your ability to pay comes before your health needs. Virtually everyone involved in the health service: doctors, nurses and patients are opposed to the Tory/Lib Dem attacks, so why won’t Cameron and Clegg listen?

On May 3rd, send a message to Mr. Cameron that you don’t like what he’s doing to our health service, that you don’t like his attacks on pensioner’s tax allowances nor do you approve of his 3p increase in petrol later this year. This Tory/Lib Dem coalition is only interested in giving tax hand outs to millionaires while the rest of us pay.

The only way you send that message to Mr. Cameron is by voting Labour. Elections in our area are now two horse races between Labour and Conservative. The Liberal Democrats have collapsed in Rochdale, the evidence is clear to see:

  • In Rochdale, the Lib Dems crashed from 32 councillors to just 10 in 18 months
  • In the space of a year, no fewer than 12 Lib Dem councillors in Rochdale defected to other parties – the biggest number in Britain.
  • In last year’s council elections, the Lib Dems failed to win a single ward out the 20 wards in Rochdale
  • The Lib Dems are in coalition with the Tories in government and were in coalition with the Tories in Rochdale Town Hall so there is no difference between them. A vote for the Lib Dems is a vote for the Tories.
  • I am the only alternative to the Conservatives in your ward. The Lib Dems can’t win in Rochdale

Thank you for reading my pitch for Rochdale Online. Please support me on May 3rd.

Best wishes
