Smallbridge & Firgrove Ward
23 Thames Road
Ellie Kelly Smallbridge and Firgrove
I am delighted to have been selected to stand for the Lib Dems again in Smallbridge and Firgrove.
I have lived in Rochdale all my life; I attended Moorhouse Primary School and Hollingworth Academy and currently work as a deeds and records assistant in Trafford. I am involved in several local theatre groups.
When I look around Smallbridge and Firgrove, the first issue I see not being addressed is fly tipping. No one wants rubbish and refuse left in public spaces and I would make it one of my priorities to tackle this. I will campaign to bring back bulky waste collection, increase the number of litter bins and support the council enforcement officers in developing effective deterrents.
Having spoken to residents on the doorstep, I know that one of the things people find frustrating is complacency from Councillors who add to their own pay packets in the face of redundancies and cuts. So, it is only right that, should I be elected, I along with the rest of the Lib Dem group will refuse the 34% pay rise and won’t take one until it is fair and reasonable to do so.
Another bugbear on the doorstep, and indeed online, are the constant stories and bad press associated with the current and previous leader of the Council.
It's becoming apparent that a lot of residents would like to see new faces on the Council and that they are held to higher standards of honesty and transparency by the public.
